Freight and passenger rail transport: for new construction, maintenance or testing of selected components for regional trains, express trains, freight wagons through to rack railroads, we are always your contact for special services.

Zeppelin is your partner certified according to EN 16910 and DIN 27201 when it comes to testing components for rail vehicles, such as wheelset shafts and bogies in maintenance operations. Our experienced inspectors, qualified according to DIN EN ISO 9712, are additionally trained according to DIN 27201 and test internationally according to customer requirements and standards recognized by DB.

We are certified to DIN EN 15085-2 for the manufacture and repair of components in the rail sector, drawing on our high level of expertise in the welding of aluminum and special materials.

But these are only a few facets of our activities in the railroad sector: We also have a high level of expertise in railroad bridge testing. Here, in addition to our qualified inspectors, you are also supported by our experienced civil engineers and welding engineers.

Dye penetrant testing (PT)

Dye penetrant testing can be used as a so-called red-white test on all non-absorbent materials that have a defect open to the surface. As an easy-to-apply method, it is primarily used for mobile applications.

Magnetic particle inspection (MT)

Cracks or near-surface flaws located on ferromagnetic components can be detected with magnetic particle inspection. Depending on the size of the component to be inspected, a mobile magnetic yoke or solenoid coil is used.

X-ray testing (RT) film

X-ray testing is one of the oldest test methods for reliably detecting detect deeper volume defects with certainty. Depending on the nature of the of the component, the radiographic medium varies. Traditionally, the evaluation is carried out via X-ray film.

Ultrasonic testing (UT)

If the inner surface of a component is not accessible, ultrasonic testing is usually used to find defects. For example, aircraft structures can be inspected reliably or wall thickness measurements can be carried out on ships.

Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT)

Phased array ultrasonic testing uses phased array technology to visualize complex volume defects in a wide variety of materials. As a mature volume inspection method, PAUT is often a substitute for "radiant" X-ray inspection.

Leak Test (LT)

In order to detect the smallest leaks in vessels, tanks, heat exchangers or other plant components, helium is the preferred test gas for industrial leak detection.

Endoscopy

Rigid or flexible endoscopes can be used for visual inspections in cavities and vessels that are difficult to see. The same applies to internal inspection of pipes and piping systems and other complex component geometries.

The selection of the right test method requires a lot of experience. Often, defects can only be detected in combination of several methods. Our test supervisors, experienced according to DIN EN ISO 9712 / DIN EN 4179, will guide you safely through this step.
